Artist Statement

Brenda’s passion for art has been a driving force since childhood. Beginning with private oil painting lessons in her small northern Wisconsin town, she nurtured her artistic talents from an early age. Even while working in the travel and airline industry, Brenda remained dedicated to her art, eventually discovering the world of clay and three-dimensional creation. Clay introduced Brenda to a new realm of artistic expression, combining beauty with functionality. While she finds joy in crafting sculptures, her greatest satisfaction comes from creating functional objects for daily use. She believes that a beautifully handmade mug can enhance the simple pleasure of drinking a cup of tea or coffee.

Since relocating to Oregon in 2005, Brenda has fully immersed herself in her clay work. With the support of her husband, she built a wood-fired kiln and established a dedicated studio space. In addition to her expertise in wood-fired pottery, Brenda also explores electric firing techniques, which offer her greater control over the final product. Brenda is particularly proud of her international recognition as a participant in two juried shows hosted by the Hokkaido Potters Society in Sapporo, Japan. Her work was featured in their exhibitions in 2018 and 2023, highlighting her commitment to excellence and global artistic engagement.
